tinkit
OK, I'm officially an exlojbanist. I attempted to learn the words before realizing that they were more irregular than even English! Rafsi are basically conjugations, and they have no discernable pattern, other than being composed of letters from the gismu. Modals are directly related to gismu, and many are irregular. The grammar is still very interesting, though. Now I describe lojban to the outside world as having logical grammar, hexadecimal numbers, and rampant irregularities.
I nd've put tinkit's text above and the vituperation follows below:]
OK, I'm officially an exlojbanist. Then why the hell are you still here? I attempted to learn the words before realizing that they were more irregular than even English! Rafsi are basically conjugations No, they are unlike anything in natlangs - And in my case, .kreig.daniyl. agree that they suck, and they have no discernable pattern, other than being composed of letters from the gismu. Modals are directly related to gismu, and many are irregular. The grammar is still very interesting, though. Now I describe lojban to the outside world as having logical grammar, hexadecimal numbers, and rampant irregularities. And in this you are completely worng. Also, we are fine with you not being part of the movement anymore, but we don't need you spreading misinformation and founding a vast anti-lojban conspiracy just because you dislike one thing about the language. - mi'e. .kreig.daniyl.

how about you explain why on earth you feel compelled to try and ruin Lojban for everyone else, when you could instead just copy the one or two features of Lojban you do like, into a language of your own making? the descriptions of Lojban are public domain, nobody will stop you. hell, they might even help you.
- .i coi tinkit.
- I like base 5/20 (every other digit is base 5 or base 20). sort of like the mayans? really? i never knew that.... [1] wow, i'm enlightened. i guess this is not all that original, then. actually, they're not quite the same. theirs is more like base 5/4
- 50 base 10 is na (n=10, a=0) base 5/20, 1320 base 10 is DOGA (d=2,o=3,g=4), 10 base 10 is da.
- ZUZUZU is 4(1) + 19(5) + 4(20*5) + 19(5*20*5) + 4(20*5*20*5) + 19(5*20*5*20*5) (z=19,u=4) = 999999

Tinkit: hex is wonderful. it is not the default. go put it on Wouldn't it have been nice....
- let usage decide.
- It did. You're too late.
- And you're too late to have the hexadecimal cmavo removed (although xei is in flux).
- Just because they are there doesn't mean they have to be used.
- And you're too late to have the hexadecimal cmavo removed (although xei is in flux).
- They should certainly be used. For talking about hexadecimal things (or duodecimal ones, like clock time). There's a difference between "being used" and "being the default" though.'

Enough, Jay. I didn't harass you...I just was wondering if your e-mail was down. And I was joking about being threatened by you. Ever heard of "burying the hatchet?" Yes, that's malglico for ""Can't we all just get along?" uit with the pointless animosity".
I've no interest in resolving anything with a roll.
tinkit apparently is going for the big time and trolling lashdot instead of various mailing lists now. The posts by the newly-created account "Derek Finch" (created very soon after he posted his final statement here) have a certain single-minded quality which can only be him. "RMS is dumb because he uses decimal. Rational people use hexadecimal." "The Linux kernel uses too much decimal." It's never been so pleasing to moderate someone down.
Incidentally, if you have nothing better to do, search for "thinkit8" on groups.google.com and stare in morbid fascination. "How do women feel about hexadecimal?" to soc.women. "Python should default to hexadecimal" to comp.lang.python. "Weights should be numbered in hexadecimal" to rec.fitness.weights. "U2 would be more productive if they used hexadecimal" to rec.music.u2. "Please correct your post from any decimal usage and try again." to sci.archaeology. "Don't use milligrams! Use hexadecimal kg!" to misc.kids.health. "I would give my life for powers of two" to alt.suicide.holiday. (!) "Decimal causes cancer." to sci.math. "could someone hijack the moon and crash it into earth?" to sci.physics. Okay, that one's a bit different.
- We almost need damage control against this fool, see his thread to which he contributed.
I felt like doing what you suggested : ...so what radix do you like? what about numerals and letters? how did
you design them? Oog I think tinkit has joined lojban mythology... mi'e greg.
Everywhere else learned to ignore him very quickly. I'm surprised we let him last so long. Maybe he stayed because he thought he had a foothold in the hex cmavo.

Well, he did say non-hexish things too. Besides, the hex debate only set off debate about what would be best in an ideal world, which I at least enjoyed - though I assume nobody but tinkit thought it would change anything in this world - and expanded the mythos of la xagvar to include multiple bases. There was some discussion here (now replaced by a link to "Can't we all just get along?") that included an observation about his religious views. Basically, he thinks atheism is the religion of the future, not because of anything specifically about atheism but because all the smart people will create nanomachines that kill everyone who believes in god. The jury is still out on whether he and Bloke_Without_A_Favourite_Colour are the same. - mi'e. .kreig.daniyl.

The bloke seems to have become silent, which seems to lend credence to him being a tentacle of thinkit.
I said I still read this wiki (the English parts). Please don't delete stuff from my own (supposed) page.
You're no longer a Lojbanist. This isn't your page. Go get a homepage if you want full editorial control.
I'm just talking about wiki-ethics. Whether I speak lojban has nothing to do with it.
If you want to say that that has nothing to do with it, run your own Wiki. As it stands, you're a second class citizen on this Wiki. Don't waste my time with complaints again.
You don't have to learn rafsi. Just learn "words" (brivla), as you would any other language. In time, you'll pick up some frequently recurring rafsi.
If you want a shortcut to a very large vocab, then go ahead and learn rafsi but if you want to learn the language piecemeal, you're no worse off than with any other language.
Modals, OTOH, I agree. I use some of them a lot but I can see how they could be an obstacle to beginners trying to learn the language. That's a very valid criticism. If you think lojban has advantages enough that you might want to learn some of these 212 monsters, or learn to live with the language without knowing them, you're welcome back. Good luck. bangu ko
When I first heard of counting-words in Japanese (sort of like sheets of paper, flocks of seagull, crash of rhinos and so on) it almost scared me away from the language. Similarly all the verb forms in french. selma'o BAI are almost like that.
