To give a straightforward explanation of what is alluded to here, Loglan didn't have y originally, and bare cmevla were legal vocatives. Some people used r as a hesitation noise, and pc proposed that this was actually an invocation of the god of hesitation (see also ki'ai). As a result, R was introduced into the Pantheon of Loglan Gods.
