When formulating place structures for lujvo, either through the dikyjvo rule-bound approach or not, the issue often arises on whether to include more or less places. Lean lujvo advocates less places. That way, it is argued, the meaning of the lujvo stays broader rather than narrower, which is consistent with the overall approach to brivla in Lojban.

Lean Lujvo were mooted by Nick Nicholas in his initial discussion on dikyjvo, and found favour from Jorge Llambias.

Cf. Bloated Gismu Syndrome, for a similar attitude towards extant gismu place structures; Lojbanistani Culture for a statement of this position concerning gismu against lujvo by Colin Fine.
